Dolly Parton to be studied as a course in university

Country fans have been given the opportunity to study the life of Dolly Parton as part of a new college course in her native Tennessee.

The superstar is the subject of Dolly Parton’s America: From Sevierville to the World, a new class at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

The course aims to inspire students and help them get to grips with historic events by using her life story as a reference, with her autobiography, Dolly: My Life, among the materials students will study.

University officials have already proven to be big fans of the singer – she was given an honorary doctorate there in 2009.

Dolly isn’t the only musician students can study – rap duo OutKast previously became the topic of a course at Armstrong State University in its native Georgia, while Beyonce fans at the University of Texas at San Antonio were offered the chance to enrol in the Black Women, Beyonce, and Popular Culture course last year (16).
